MSI Pro2A and Hard Drive problems

When my computer uses the harddrive alot (loading programs, installing things, large file transfer), my computer continually "hickups" It transfers at normal speed for a few seconds, then my whole system SLOWS down for about a second. I have a IBM 75GXP and the via 4.29 drivers installed, and I use win98SE. I've tried the 2.5 bios and the OC bios ver 16.

When I use the 2.5:
Hiccups occur severely.

When I use the OC bios:
Hicups arent as bad
Bios POST screen reports my southbridge as a 686A.
 
Have you tried installing the VIA IDE drivers seperately (not from 4in1)?? This seemed to help boost my overall IDE performance slightly (but STILL didn't fix the ATAPI ZIP problem). You can get the 3011 IDE drivers here
