I was running 3D Mark scores this morning and my computer locked up. I shut down to reboot and now nothing happens. I open the case and restart and I get four red lights on the board. For those of you that don't have this board that is suppose to indicate a bad cpu. I have not had any problems at all and have been running this cpu since November, could it have just gone bad?

Anyone else run into this, doesn't boot with four red lights? Anything else I can try before pulling the cpu?

thanks,
rb56

Edit: Replaced the board and cpu (see last post)everything is working again. Had to reactivate XP, not a big deal by the way took the info just like the first time and said thanks. New board and new cpu "time to tweak"

thanks again,
rb56 :D

Unplug the power cord, wait a few seconds, plug back in, then reboot.

Your system is similar to what mine WAS last week, I was playing Q3A in linux. The last thing I saw was a frozen frag screen. My pro2a is dead, my AIW Radeon is smoked <sniff> my AIW Radeon! Still not sure what happened, over 6 months of flawless stability. My pro2a only partially POST's, but won't go to the Bios set up screen. My Radeon has alot of artifacts at boot up. Damn.

I wish you luck. its no big deal to pull the cpu, my board had the 4 red led's at first as well, try taking out all but the minimum hardware and reseat your CPU.

Heared about your Radeon in an earlier post you made, sorry to hear about that! Guess I'll pull everything and try to reseat. I was going to get a 1.2mhz Thunderbird anyway but I would have liked to keep the old cpu to upgrade my sons computer.

thanks again,

Yea, I picked up a FIC AZ11(cheap at Fry's) and a boxed Duron 900 just in case my CPU was dead. My old Duron 650 booted right up in the FIC, so your cpu may be OK. I'm not sure if I want to pick up an Le until I can RMA or replace my AIW, I may just go for the seperate tuner and wait for the R200. In any case I was only down for a couple days, all is cool now.

Good luck!

Well picked up a new MSI Turbo and Duron 850. I'm going to try the Duron first and then put the Turbo in if need be. If not I'll order a 1.2 266 Thunderbird and built a new box.

I thinking that with the turbo I should be able to just swap out the board and boot up without going though much setting up being it's got the same bios and all. What do you all think?

thanks,
rb56

Wanted to say thanks to all you Anandtecher's.

While reading some posts on the turbo before I installed it I came across one that stated that the cmos should be set to 1,2 and NOT 2,3 to keep settings as the manual stated.

I drove over 250 miles round trip today to pick up the parts to repair this box and I would have come unglued if I would have fried the board because the manual was screwed up.

This board and the people on it have saved me time and problems over and over again in the past year or so and to all of you I say thank you!
