MSI P6N SLI Platinum 650i SLI ATX - Question

Hello,

This is my first post on this forum and I hope to learn from it. I have built a couple of very stable PC's in the last 3 years (still going strong) and am getting ready to build my first Core Duo PC now. I received my MSI P6N Platinum board from Newegg last Thursday. Upon taking it out of its package last night, I noted that the lower heatpipe that terminates (terminating end sticks out) on the 650i SLI heatsink with Platinum written on top) appears ruptured on the end. In other words, it does not appear to be closed visually, like the other heat pipe ends on the other two sinks. Of course, I cannot see whether it is truly sealed on the inside and it is only the end that is ruptured and open.

So my question is whether there are any other folks who have noted the same issue and whether I should RMA this board?

For reference, the other components I have selected are relatively entry level, i.e. E4300 processor, EVGA 7900 GS KO card, OCZ (2 X 1 GB) Platinum Rev 2 DDR2 800 memory, using an existing Maxtor 250 HD, Antec P180B case with additional 120 mm smart fan and an Antec Neo 550 PS.

Appreciate the responses.

Regards,

aba

Update:
I sent a note to MSI technical service yesterday morning. They reponded later in the afternoon and advised that I do not use the board at all, and to RMA with Newegg. Great, fast CS response. Now I have to deal with my first RMA experience with Newegg. Everything has been great with Newegg thus far. The only nagging vibe I noted is that they do not reimburse defective RMA shipping costs. Things could be worse................ They do pay for replacement shipping. I hope they ship prior to receiving my defective board. I am anxious to set my unit up.

Hey aba,

Sorry to hear about your heat-pipe trouble. This is the first time I've heard of this particular issue, but at least the MSI CS was prompt. Good luck with the new build!

If you've got some time to kill while waiting on the RMA, you could go wade through this thread.

Appreciate the reply. Newegg treated me very well and is cross shipping the replacement board. I should have it by Thursday at the latest. I received my EVGA 7900GS KO card today. Playing the waiting game now. aba:)
