hello, not a complete noob with building computers...been doing it for the last few years now and i cant quite figure this one out. first my setup:

-Core2Quad Q6600 2.4ghz (B3)
-Arctic Freezer 7 HSF
-Thermaltake TR2-430watts
-EVGA e-geforce 256mb 8500GT
-Wintec 2gb DDR2 800mhz dual channel memory
-Windows Vista Ultimate x64

now for the problem...this rig wont shut off. when i hit shutdown in vista the monitor goes dark, and nothings responsive. only way to shut off computer is to hold the power button til it shuts off. ive tried searching...first time building a LGA775 socket computer. the thermaltake has a 24pin power connector, and an extra 4pin connector (which i plugged into the mobo). problem is...the mobo has 8pin's. could this be the problem? i figured 430watts would be more than enough power since i do not overclock whatsoever. just want a performance quality stable rig. not sure what it could be since im still getting used to vista.

someone...anyone? please. ive gone and reinstalled vista with no changes, im currently in the process of installing XP pro now. afterwards im going to start swapping component to see whats wrong with this. even considering buying a very expensive power supply just so i can get that 8pin cpu power connector to see if thats the problem.

It's not Vista specifically. It's companies that cannot write proper drivers for x64.

Another Vista hater! I'm waiting for SP1. Will probably stick with WXP Pro, unless I see a big miracle from Mr. Softie.

not a vista hater per say...i do like some of the enhancements but not enough to warrant the 600mb of memory usage from a fresh boot vs xp's fresh boot of about 90mb of memory...

Vista is slower than XP. Therefore, it has to cache frequently used applications to RAMs to boost performance.
