Currently running an Asus P5Q-E. CPU & Motherboard temps being reported are way out of line even with the latest bios (1201). Motherboard has also eaten the sensor of two case fans so far.

Am starting to look around for a replacement before this one drives me crazy. Seems the MSI P45 Platinum may be a good alternative.

Has anyone any experience with the MSI or both? Not alot out there on the MSI so far.

not the one you're looking for pretty happy with my MSI P43 Neo3-F mb so far.

i just put it together this past weekend so i haven't really explored the BIOS or pushed the OC abilities yet.
just installed the OS and testing stability for now.

I love my MSI P45 Neo3-FR board. Took my E8500 to 4.25GHz and my Q9400 to 3.7GHz. There's a thread I put up here somewhere about it.

Thanks for those replies!

I have become very used to Asus boards and bioses.

How are the MSI boards as far as bios stability, temperature reporting, etc?

Are there any known quirks to their products that will drive me as crazy as the ASUS problems I have been having?

Not sure I follow on bios stability. The board allows me to tweak and boots, otherwise I don't follow. For temps, I use core temp and that's all.

Not sure I know what I mean either! For instance, this evening, the fan that stopped reporting that has not been reported by the bios for days started being reported again. A few minutes ago, that fan plus another fan stopped reporting their speed. CPU temp has fluctuated between 26 and 111 degrees. The fan speeds are being reported the same way in the bios, Probe, Speedfan and Everest. The temps are the same in Probe and Speedfan but Everest seems to keep them more in line.

The bios is flaky. It picks up the fan speeds, it doesn't pick up the fan speeds, it report temps that are ok, it reports temps way out of line. Rebooting doesn't help. It just does what it wants.

Its a small annoyance but this is my second P5Q-E, first one was DOA. I feel I am waiting for impending major failure. Thats why I am trying to find a rock solid replacement.

I have had very good experiences with MSI especially in terms of BIOS and stability- I have a thread about it here somewhere. Their response Via Email is quick and they even made a 'performance' Bios for my board (which included the PCi-E frequency setting I requested) after a few inquiries by myself other forum members. Gillbot's P45 Neo3-FR is a great board and the Platinum has a few more features to boot so I am sure you'd be happy with that as a replacement.

Last night with Probe running and Everest running, motherboard temps fluctuated between 0 - 43 on everest and 0 - 254 on Probe. The fan that I thought the sensor was dead on came back and then it went back to zero (both Probe and Everest) and then a second fan also stopped reporting speed.

When I went to bed, the second fan had started reporting again and both Probe and Everest were reporting the motherboard at 3 degrees.

The MSI board is looking better and better! The only thing stopping me is having to reinstall all over again! What do you think the chances are of being able to boot up with the MSI and resinstall chipset drivers?
