Hi.

First of all, my specs:

C2D E8500 @ 4Ghz 1.35V
MSI P45 Platinum
2x 1GB GeIL, 2x 1GB Ballistix @ 1000Mhz 5-5-5-15 2.0V
PowerColor HD4870 512MB 845/975
Corsair HX520W PSU

Mobo settings:

Everything needing disabled I have disabled, like the EIST or w/e (speedstep I think)
1.34V MCH
1.24V VTT
2.050V on the ram or around that.
1.35V Vcore

Spread Spectrum disabled.
Amplitude and CLK control are set to AUTO.
GLT Ref settings also set to AUTO.

Anyway no matter what I do I cant get over 4Ghz stable, I tried playing with amplitude controls and all that, setting GLT Ref settings on the core (ref 1 and 0) and on the MCH but did not help, I also had the voltage raised to 1.4V, I really dont know what to do but it wont budge

Any ideas? The guy who had the CPU before told me it can do 4.5Ghz at around 1.4V, I know its not the same on all mobo's, its obvious its not the voltage of the CPU its something else, the mobo is so complicated.

Thanks
Willz.

Anyone? :(

I'm really desperate to overclock this, even 4Ghz at 1.35V seems to be unstable, must be a way to stabalize it? I know 1.35V is more than enough for this CPU :(.

Did you see any proof of this? or you are just taking his word for it

More to your setup:
  • are you familiar with overclocking or a noob?
    what cooler do you have?
    what are your temps?

Hi.

I never seen proof of 4.5Ghz at 1.4V but I did see proof of 4.2Ghz at 1.35V, it was a while ago so when he gets online I'm going to ask him to link me to the screenshots he posted on the forum a while back.

I'm using an OCZ Vindicator but in a hour or two I should have a TRUE 120 arriving. My temps hit about 70 atm with this cooler, it might not be on correctly, the clips are just such a mess about, maybe not to everyone but to me, the true will be much easier for me to put in. in Orthos temps where hitting about 65 though.

As far as overclocking on the P45 chipset is concerned then yea I'm abit of a noob but I got my CPU's clocked fine on my P35 so and been overclocking for a while so I'm not a total noob.

Thanks

Well before you go to the world's end, I think you need to verify your objectives first. Get in touch with the seller and confirm the overclockability of the chip, making note of the conditions ( e.g.motherboard, core + NB settings, cooler, temps, stability tests, etc) under which the overclock was achieved, and hopefully he sold you the right chip.

Before focusing on the chip, I also expect you to dial down your memory speed, and use only 2GB, just to eliminate the memory from the equation (whats the spec of your modules?)

You could also reduce the multiplier to try and find the FSB limit, before going after the actual overclock.
