MSI P45 NEO not accepting 4 gigs!

Well, My gigabyte bit the dust. I went out and got a MSI P45 Neo as a 2 month replacement. My problem is I can install 2 gigs of my balistix tracers but cannot put in 4 gigs. The system freezes when I turn it on and you can hear the mem try and cycle on then the LED's are stuck, letting me know they are not working right, then the comp restarts or tries to. Board works great from what I see with 2 gigs, but I would love to add those other two gigs. Any suggestions?

Keep the 2Gb in and get into bios. Set the timings to 5-5-5-15, set the voltage to the default settings and reboot. Then shut down, add the remaining 2Gb and see what happens. You just might have to bump up the voltage +1. After all is in, then you can reset your timings according to your OC, you just might have to leave them loose until you get things back to stable. If you are overclocking, Try to set it back to default also. Save your settings....

OK, so do not settle for Auto? I think the auto sets them at those settings, but yea, going to install vista 64 then do what you say. If you have this board do you suggest upgrading the chipset asap? I do not think I will be OCing this board, maybe, just for shins and giggles. But yea, that +1 makes a lot of sense.

PS: Love your signature. I am on board.

Grrr, Cannot figure out how to set the Voltage to Ram. It will not let me adjust it from auto. Any suggestions?

Yea, Auto shouldn't be used in this catagory. By setting it manually you have a better control for your needs. Same with your Cpu's vcore. If not over clocking you should set it to your chips VID or possably lower. ( depending on stability ). After upgrading, yes go ahead and update the bios, wouldn't hurt.

I have used 5,5,5,15 and no luck. I still cannot up the voltage though, stuck on auto and know not how to enable it so that I can change it.

Should be a setting to manually over ride Auto. Take a look around. I bet this is what is stopping you.

Edit: Also, is your Ram @ 800Mhz. Make sure it is set to 1:1 ratio first. hopefully this will help you get all 4Gb in and then you can adjust later.

Yea, I agree about the over ride, but I have no idea where it is. Been looking since we started this thread and you replied.

heh, no help in manual. Just when you think its going to tell you, the sentence ends like its a typo and there is no info on how to actually make these options manual instead of auto.

WOW< Thanks a ton. A couple things for your future knowledge.

The way to move from Auto is to use the +/- on the num pad. The voltage starts at 1.88 and can move all the way up to 2.3 or something like that. I had to boost them all the way to 2.1 in order to get all 4 gigs to work. I did it and THANK YOU. Seems like a hug buff to the voltage but if it works, hey. I am happy. I will take them down a bit in order to find the happy place. The Ballistix Tracers are rated at 2.2 volt.

Yup, Figured they needed the voltage. Great to see it worked for you. Make sure that you are stable by running some bench tests.

Again nice job! :)
