MSI or Leadtek Gf 6600Gt PCI-E Which 1 is better to buy?

loco21, the 2 cards are essentially i dentical i think. They use the chip but MSI and Leadtek along with the many other 6600gt options available slap a different heatsink on the board. Some tweak the boards a bit to be able to overclock more or be more stable in games but essentially they are the same. I am also deciding on getting a 6600gt card from newegg and the way I am deciding is on what the package offers. Once I select a couple that I like I will see if other people have had problems with that particular board and if so I will narrow down my selection. They all have sli capabilities so if u decide on getting a mobo that supports that the card would last you longer with the next gen games. I will probably decide on a card later today and buy it and have it at my door in 1 day....I live close to newegg's LA warehouse

I have decided to go with the leadtek that you have the link for. Leadtek has another with doom3 for $19 more but I already have that game so I'll go with the non doom 3 version. Also it looks like the non doom3 vid card comes with prince of persia 2 which I have not played and i think would be cool

it was quite a long article but informative. I hadn;t considered how important the hsf unit is and how it affects the temperature that much. as for the cards that went over 80 degrees is just scary. the leadtek does seem to be best choice since it was at the top most of the time. now i can more confidently purchase the card.

I bought a 6600gt leadtek because it was given the editor's choice gold medal based on that article and it has been running with no problem.

I too bought the leadtek after reading the anandtech comparison. Thought I was good to go.

Today I was playing NFS Underground 2. oc at 550/1100. cpu at stock speed. everything seemed nice, looked great. Less than 10 minutes in, black screen, reboot.

Left the clocks at stock and went on. Graphics looked all messed up. So I shut down.

Waited a minute, booted. Back in game, looks fine. Less than 10 minutes in shutdown again!!!

This time I dual viewed with temp monitors on opposite montior. GRAPHICS CORRUPT at this point. Less than 3 minutes and card hits 89c. Later tested to hit 90, flickering to 91 and shutdown after couple minutes (after reboots, driver changes, underclocking).

My advice to you all is to make a setup that will tax your system and show you temps at the same time. Do it at stock speeds before oc. You don't want to end up like me!

Tough call for me, MSI 6600GT is $31 less than the Leadtek(not the overclocked one either). To take the chance or not =)

No it comes with Sands of Time, but be happy, becuase SoT is much better than Warrior Within. Warrior Within is still passable, but it's been made immature and juvenile to sell to 15 year old males who don't know any better.
