im about to buy a new comp., planning to use 2.8C instead of 2.8E for overclocking. big question is which board to use. the MSI 865PE PLATINUM or ASUS P4P800-deluxe(this is all i can afford). i dont have the money thats why i choose P4P800-deluxe over the P4C800-standard. which of the two boards perfroms better? i need feedback please help. 😕

I'd go with the Asus motherboard. I've bult two systems with that particular board and they are both rock solid.

I'd recommend either an Abit IS7 (865pe chipset) or an Abit IC7, which is only $10 more at newegg, and has the 875 chipset.

🙂 WOW thanks guys, though i was wondering quite a bit coz that MSI platinum is very attractive but now hell yeah i'd go with the P4P800. BTW can i overclock my 2.8C in the P4P800 board? pls. if someone have done that please tel me how to do that

I'd go with the MSI if you're concerned about money. The MSIs are a bit cheaper but are still very stable platforms.

I don't have any experience with P4 motherboards... but the KT333 MSI board I use to have had the worst layout of any motherboard I've ever owned... IDE ports ALL the way at the bottom so I had to put drives in really odd places to get the cables to reach... PSU connector so close to the socket that most heatsinks wouldn't fit. And I think the mounting holes were off a bit because PCI and AGP cards never fit right in my case with that board... it was like they were a half a centimeter too high always.

On the other hand, my Asus A7N8X Deluxe fits fine and has a great layout.

that hasn't changed

ok so its settled, im gonna pick the P4P800-Deluxe and a 2.8C with 2 stick of 256mb geil (GL5124000DC - model) PC4000(DDR500). according to what i have read, ican O/C my system with a 1:1 ratio, set FSB to 250MHz and yield a CPU speed of 3.5MHz. is that correct? i'm planning to do that with the intel stock HSF. am i doing this O/C correct? ANY COMMENTS OR SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME.

sadly those kinds of cooling kit is not available here in the philippines, the only ones available are the thermaltakes. BTW will the stock HSF be able to support my rig at that configuration. and can somebody send me a complete tweaked bios config. you can email me @ im2good4u_ph@yahoo.com
