MSI NX8800Ultra or EVGA GeForce 8800GTX

I was wondering which of the two to pick, Obviosly the core clock speed is higher in the MSI Ultra but which is the better video card? Which one will I expect the most "Bang for my Buck" I guess is what I am trying to find out.

If you can afford that ... you can afford a SLI ... u better go for a couple 8800 GTs and be happy

Buy a EVGA 8800gt (90% of a gtx speed) card now 260.00$ and step up to a new 8800gts (faster then the ultra) in a few weeks for another 100 bucks. Total 360 dollars and a faster cooler/with less power usage then the system with the 8800 ultra for 200 less.

Ultras are gimmicks and GTXs aren't as valuable anymore because of the 8800GT. I'd have to concur with those who recommend 8800GTs in SLI would cost less than a single GTX but would outperform.

If you absolutely must have a single card solution, then the GTX would be a better buy; just slap an aftermarket cooler and OC it past Ultra levels.

Don't buy into Nvidia's marketing crap about the Ultra; it simply isn't worth it.

I was in a similar boat recently, as I had sold my old GTX and gotten an 8800GT, which I didn't like as much, so I bought another GTX. I opted for the EVGA GTX over the MSI Ultra or the Foxconn GTX (which is pretty cheap for a GTX) mainly because of the EVGA step-up program. Should they launch a new, better card in 90 days, you can trade up. Granted, you can do the same with an EVGA 8800GT if you want to.

The ultra depending on price could be or not be a gimmick.

Compare the stock clocks.
Ultra - 612/1500/2300 (MSI OC version for $569 AR at newegg is 660MHz on the core).
GTX - 575/1350/1800

No GTX is going to reach 2300 MHz on the memory, and since ultra's use cherry picked cores, they OC much higher than GTXs would. So it really comes down to what res, budget etc the OP has/uses.

Id say buy a EVGA 8800GT and step up to the new GTS on dec 3rd.

I would have to agree with the people who said buy a GT now and step up to a new GTS when they come out (not to be confused with the current "new" GTS which are still G80 based but newer then the original).

or go for SLI with two GT....

Buying either an ultra or a GTX right now is downright dumb.

step up is a pain in the ass. just log on to newegg and outpost on 12/3 and buy up the new 8800gts 512 as soon as it comes out. it should have ultra performance at 350-400.

Seconded. Why hassle with step-up when you can just buy the next generation GTS directly? Just make sure to get an EVGA model for one additional benefit: if nVidia happens to launch another higher-end product within 90 days you can then step-up from the GTS to the faster card.

What about buy a new Geforce GTS Dec. 3 then step up to the next high end nvidia video card instead? Seems a little bit more worth while maybe. There should at least be something out that will be worthwhile stepping up to.
