I recently picked up an MSI NX8600GTS-T2D256E-OC card, and while I'm happy with it's performance I'm not happy with how noisy it's fan is.. it's the loudest thing in my case.
Curiously, the fan has two plugs coming off it.. I've read in a couple reviews that one can be used to run the fan at 5v instead of 12 so it won't be so annoyingly loud, though none give details. But looking closer at these plugs.. the socket on the card is 4 pin, but this second plug is only 3 pin, and it appears that the only difference is the red and black wires have been switched in position.
Does anybody else who has this card know how to easily down-volt the fan with those plugs? I understand the idea behind undervolting a fan with standard molex connectors, but no adapter I have will fit the plugs on this thing, and I don't want to do something foolish that would damage a $180 purchase.
Thanks.
