Hello everyone.
My friend has an MSI nForce based motherboard - it has integrated GeForce2 Video, 512MB PC2100 RAM and an AMD Athlon XP 1700+ processor. Since the day he has had the machine (a few months ago), he has been unable to successfully load a single game that runs in the Quake/OpenGL 3D graphics mode. 2D graphics are fine, and everything appears to be working. However, no matter how many updates to the video drivers we load, we cant get 3D stuff to work at all. The errors are different for each game. For example, JEDI OUTCAST will crash when the game loads - showing some sort of weird cant read JPEG file error in the OpenGL load window, and Medal of Honor - Allied Assault will run, but none of the polygons are filled in so you get a forest of lines with no shape.
I reformatted, reinstalled Windows XP (Home edition), reloaded all of the MSI specific drivers, checked the nVidia sight for more drivers- no difference.
I reformatted, installed Windows 2000, updated all the MSFT, MSI/nVidia drivers, all the games work fine.
Basically, the hardware works, the games work, but only under Windows 2000 and not Windows XP.
What the hell is going on here? Do I need a patch that is yet to be released, or is there some configuration thing in Windows XP that needs to be tweaked.
Please help!! and thanks in advance.
