MSI nForce and temperatures

Is my motherboard reading my temperatures wrong? under full load on a Duron 800 with a dr. thermal ti-v77(stock fan) im getting temps of 55 degrees celcius. with an sk-6(sunon slow fan) i was getting temps about 5-6 degrees hotter, i've applied paste(even different kinds, now using arctica alumina) and i know that the paste is put on correctly. My previous motherboard(MSI K7T pro 2a) reported temps much lower, in the high 30's to low 40's with the sk-6. is it just the motherboard that's reporting temps high? is it defective? i'm also getting a very weird reading of 74 degrees celsius on the winbond3 sensor with an athlonxp 1700+ and -54 degrees celsius with a duron 800.

sorry if my post is incoherent 🙂 and thank you for any help

appears to be very common with msi nforce boards. there is evidently a defect in the temp monitering on some of the msi k7n boards. I have personally seen this in 1 board i installed for someone. As far as i can tell the temps are just wrong. looks like something between 15 - 20c high. I have read many postings in the msi forums check out this thread and you should get an idea what is going on.
