I hear this fan is a major noise maker at since its running at 8000rpm+ I believe it. I have a big case with 4 80mm fans as it is so I want to find a passive heatsink or quiet fan to replace msi's banshee of a fan. Any suggestions?

You could use a Zalman ZM-NB47J (the tall blue one). However, you may need to modify the heatsink (cut off a few fins) since its so close to the PCIe16x slot.

Most active HSF solutions will most likely not work with this board due to clearance problems. The Swiftech MCX-159-R and the Thermaltake A1899 are both too tall. You might be able to use the Cool Master SLC-S41-U1 if you have no caps or ICs interferring with its clearance. The Vantec Iceberg Copper would fit, but it also has a tiny, high RPM fan. However, since its copper, you might be able to undervolt the fan by 25% for slightly quieter operation.

Jab-Tech sells several of these solutions, and NewEgg sells several as well. The Jab-Tech link is HERE.

I simply unplugged mine for the same reason, noise. It runs fine, and the temp only rose 3-4 degrees celcius. If you remove or tinker with the chipset fan, you'll void your warranty. I would leave it alone.

Yeah I dont think a passive heatsink will fit under my x800xl video card without serious modding. I wonder if theres a way to add speed control to the fan? Also, I dont really want to get into pulling my mother board out at the moment so I will leave it alone. I will test the temo rise if i unplug it. I have gold circulation in a big case. That may be enough. That fan really is insanely loud.
