SLI is really only necessary for those uber-hardcore gamers who like to play games @ maxed setting @ 1920x1200 or whatever.

Unless you plan on spending a ton of money, SLI = not needed.

Don't bother with an SLI board

just buy the cheapest one, the Neo4-F or the Platinum if you want the Sil SATA contoller and Marvell LAN

if you have a soldering iron and a steady hand, Ne04-F can easily be modded to Nforce4Ultra/Sli

works like a charm :)

I would avoid these MSI boards. They are very buggy. I amonmy third RMA with one. They suffer from poor capacitors, never ending bios updates that do not cure known problems; trade ins for defective SLI; and fickle sound issues with thelimited number of recommended power supplies.

The Neo4-F has worked great for me which the exception of the Winchester bug, but that shouldn't be a problem since Winchesters aren't all that overclockable anyway . . . also it can hit 300-320 FSB with no problem depending on your RAM (of course you could always resort to a divider if your RAM can't cut it.)

I've never had any bugs with the Neo4-F, at least not any that hasn't been fixed by changing BIOS (besides the Winchester bug)

And at $85, the Neo4-F is a hell of a deal . . .

I almost went with a Neo4 platinum, but in the end, decided against it because of weird crap like this.. I went with an A8N-E and it works awesome.... ALSO a cheap, solid board.

I sell MSI boards at work all day long, no such problems like the ^^^ above. EVERY mobo manufacturer has bad batches or some form of problems with their mobo's -- even Asus. I have more problems with Asus mobos than with MSI. I can actually get someone from MSI on the phone for tech support, half the time Asus puts me on hold for 10-30 minutes and/or their website(s) are down. (Gee whiz, does Asus power their website with squirrels or something?)

It's the bios that are just plain buggy, take mem settings for example..

When you set a setting it's either +1 or -1 off,as verified by A64tweaker,those guys cant even write a decent bios and like ver 1.8 they ADD bugs to them.

I am glad i sold mine.

I have both. VNF4Ultra is a solid board.

Neo4-F kicks the snot out of it though. Faster, better OCer, hands down.

i think we should not give him soldering iron advice. its an skill that need to master ;( or else he may burn a hole through the motherboard or wiggle the iron and solder going everywhere and landing on tracks.. . imagen how pissed he would be if his motherboard refuse to bootup and then all the anger will at you.

i didnt use a soldering iron when i did the mod. i had a conductive pen laying around and used that. i squeezed a bit on a paper clip tip that i bent out and dabbed it on the points. works perfect.

i have to say msi's bios arent that good. i, at first used the 1.71 beta bios for a while then 1.9 came out and i was curious of what it had different. flashed it but no difference. my oc didnt change so i see no point in going back to 1.71 beta.

I just told him that the option is there if they want it

sorry bud, but I have no personal responsiblity for some other guy soldering his board to death
