MSi Neo2 Plat. won't post in Dual Channel please help.

I tried to run two dimms in dual channel on 1&2, green and purple, next to each other but they didn't work. Then I tried 3&4. Everytime I hear, a beep sound, ever 5 second. And it won't post. It works on 1&3 both greens. It posts as DDR333. I dont' know why, my ram is DDR400. I don't know what's wrong. No matter which configuration of Dual ram i tried it won't post, the motherboard just makes a beeb sound every 5 second. I've updated the bios to 1.4.

BTW, I try to overclock, and i went to the cell menu. I see on top that my memory is running at 110. Isn't it supposed to be running at 200 since it's DDR400? Sorry i'm so new to this. This is my first time building my own computer and overclocking so i have no idea what i'm supposed to do. Most of the things that I read here i don't know where to find on my motherboard bios.

Sounds like one bad stick of ram...

Does it post if tyou put them in slot 1 and 3 or 2 and 4???

Also trying swapping sticks ans switch which one is the lead stick in slot 1 or 3.....

Yup it works if i put them in slot 1 and 3 and 2 and 4. But for some reason it posts them at default as DDR333.

I thought the MSI K8Neo2 Plat only supported up to DDR333? It won't post on stock RAM settings from what I've heard so your going to have to OC the memory to get it to work efficiently. Either that or I've been fed misinformation...

No it supports ddr400 when only 2 dimms are populated but 4 dimms it will revert to ddr333....HTT is 200 by default and ram is 1:1 at default on the NF3 ultra board so that means ddr400...Since I have exact board and can run duall channel ram at 550ddr with cas 2.5 timings and 1t I would say I am right here....

Are these sticks 100% matches??? Not mixing ram here are we???

What bios are you running??? may want to update to 1.4bios from MSI or use 1.36mod or better beta bioses....

Nightelf1,
What size are the Ram sticks? If they are 512 sticks, they are double sided, so if you put them in both purple or both green it will only run DDR333.

You had it correct when you had them in 1&2 which is purple and green. If its beeping then I would agree that something is amiss.

Did you test 1 stick at a time in slot 1?

You have no clue how happy that makes me, I'm buying almost exactly the same setup you are running, same memory mobo and proc anyway and I was asking someone else this question about what Ram the mobo supports, I'm just hoping I don't get a week 51 processor as I've heard they are HORRIBLE for overclocking, and I'd be VERY happy with what your running lol

If you consider 500+MHz horrible, then yes, they are. They're not as good as earlier weeks, but most people are still getting at least 450-550MHz extra out of them. (Mine's a week 51). 28% for free isn't exactly a poor overclocker...it's just not the amazing overclocks that some earlier weeks were regularly getting. That said, a few of the week51 chips are still hitting close to 2.6GHz.

Yes they are identical DIMMS both 512 MB from an on DELL System. They are both DDR400. If I just put 1 in it will work. If I put them both in 1 and 3, they will work in single channel. But revert to DDR333 for some reason.

Dual channel for the NEO2 is slots 1 and 2. If you use 1 and 3 it will revert to single channel @ 333. I have dual sided DIMMS in slot 1 and 2 running dual channel @ DDR400.
The manual is kind of hard to understand but they do illustrate all the possible configs using single sided and dual sided ram.

He is right, I had the same problem, the motherboard manual acts like for dual channel you need the ram in one and three wich does not work. Put them in one and 2 the two slots closest to the cpu it will work as dual channel then i promise. I had mine set up exactly like yours and switching to slots one and two solved the problem.

Nightelf,

The ram from a Dell system is going to be optimized for Intel systems...You probably will not get these to run in a Dual Channel configuration on an A64 system.
