Rather than retype everything, let me just paste what I sent MSI tech, maybe someone has some idea? I appreciate any advice anyone can offer. Thanks!

-----------------------------
I am having 2 problems with my new system that I assembled last week, and think they may be motherboard related. Any help you can lend is appreciated.

Problem #1 -
Whenever I turn off the power center that my system is plugged into, the system loses my mouse (MS Intellimouse Explorer 4.0 USB on USB 1).

After reading the forums, I have uploaded and installed all current drivers (i.e. - Via 4 in 1 chipset, nVidia chipset, Realtek 850, AMD 64, all current MS hardware drivers, all current MS patches and updates and service packs).

I have tried different USB ports with the same results, and I have tried different mice. I have also tried setting USB 1.1 and 1.1-2.0 in bios. This mouse works fine on my other computers, and the other mice (same model) exhibit the same problem on this system. I have also tried different sleep mode settings in bios.

If I do NOT turn off the power center, and simply power down the computer and turn off my peripherals individually, then the system doesn't seem to lose the mouse.

Mouse function is restored by simply unplugging and reinserting the mouse usb plug.

Problem #2 -
My CPU continues to exhibit high temp readings that I don't think are accurate, as stability seems fine so far.

At boot-up my cpu will show 51-55 degrees, and after a short while will hover around 59 degrees, with occassional forays above 61 degrees. I am using an Athlon 64 3000+ with stock retail heatsink and fan attached in the stock configuration.

In bios (rev 1.1) cool and quiet is running, desired core temp set at 50. Fan RPM seems to remain constant @ 3000 rpm, with no additional speed to cool the cpu more. Dynamic OC is turned off, all timings and settings are stock. I have tried every bios setting I can imagine, to no effect.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Aspire X-Alien Case, 420 PS
2x80mm cooling fans, 1 in side, 1 in top
Fans on PS, Video card, and CPU
MSI K8Neo 250Gb Platinum
AMD 64 3000+ 2.01 GHz
Geil pc3200 DDR 400 Ram (1 GB- 2x512)
Gigabyte GeForce FX5700 256MB AGP8x running Omega drivers

PS - WDC 40 GB HDD
SM - Lite-On DVD R/RW
SS - Lite-On Combo Drive
Logitech Keyboard, MS IE 4 mouse
Altec Lansing 5.1 speakers
Viewsonic A19F+ Monitor
Using On-board sound but buying Turtle Beach sound card soon, maybe tonight

Everything is running stock, no OC'ing, all drivers are current.

Only thing I can think of for the CPU temp is that I used stock setup instead of Arctic 5. Case temp starts at 40, which I think may be a little high even in the air conditioned house. As far as the USB , it simply has me stumped.

I think I only have 48 hours left to RMA any of these parts to newegg if it is something defective, as I built the system last Thursday.

I had high temps on my K8N and K8T Neo when I used my Thermaltake silent boost and stock HS-F. It kinda pissed me off that a bigass heatsink couldn't keep the temps down (even when not oc'd). System would idle at 51-53C. Load temps were 67-70C. :|

Now I'm using a Swiftech MCX64-V and I removed the IHS from my chip. I tighened it down pretty well and I know its a lot tighter than either HS/F was. My boot temps are 39-40C and load temps are 51-54C. Needless to say, I think the stock mounting bracket doesn't fit tight enough.

edit - looks like you have a newcastle. The 1.2 bios was supposed to fix the temp readings as they were known to be faulty. How is the wiring in your system? Do you have (m)any case fans?

I'm using 1.3B3 bios, straight from msi support the same day I sent in my trouble report (great tech support btw :) ).

The system doesn't seem to want to "hold onto" the bios. It seems like, if I go thru the bios at startup, and then run core center, that my cpu runs around 41-47, but if I don't go thru bios setup at startup, core center shows it running around 51-55 boot and 61-64 loaded.

I'm thinking this also has something to do with the loss of usb devices when the main power is shut off at the power strip. It's strange, because it keeps all the settings in the bios so I don't think I have a dead battery or anything. But it's like, sometimes it keeps the temp update, and sometimes it doesn't... very odd.

I don't know if its actually running hotter, or if its just a reporting error. I'm guessing a reporting error, since sometimes I can go straight to the bios at boot and it reads the cpu as 54 C or higher, immediately from a cold start with the case open, and I can touch the cpu heatsink and its just barely even warming up so I know it isn't near 54C.

I'm using 4x80mm fans right now, 1 each front and side intake, and 1 each top and rear exhaust, plus the cpu heatsink/fan and the gpu heatsink/fan.

The heatsink/fan combo seems to be very tight on the cpu, when I was installing it I was fairly scared it was way too tight if anything. So I don't think thats the problem, but I think I will get a different heatsink/fan for the cpu and use some arctic 5 instead of the stock paste just to be safe.

Wiring is pretty straightforward, I don't think there's anything obstructing airflow anywhere, and the case is pretty large and mostly wide open inside. All in all I'm pretty confident that its a bios error.

I just wish I could get the USB thing figured out, as I would like to be able to turn off the power supply at night, and use it to save some wear and tear on my monitor switch etc.

Anyhow, thanks for the help :)

My msi board cpu temps range from 57-84 celcius, but I know it's a bios issue, which flashing the latest version didn't fix. I'm running a 2.8c at 1.52 volts, so I know the temps are false.

im using the same board, and 3200 chip newcastle... and there is a new bios out for it, 1.43, but its not an official update, i found it in the forums on msi.com, and they all said it fixed the temp issues with the board readings. im not going to flash my board without the updater doing it for me, so basically i just ignore it, because my heatsink is 36c under load, so the cpu isnt going to be 65 like its reading. im just waiting on the official 1.4 update (whenever that is)
