My MB has a connection to hook front audio connectors to it but is this connection to the onboard audio? I'd rather use my Audigy card but reaching around to the back everytime I use headphones would be a pain.

Yes.

Depending on which Audigy you have, you may want to investigate getting a Live Drive off of ebay or something so you have front-panel access.
