My motherboard (MSI K8N Neo2 Ultra 3)blew out and have a chance to purchase a MSI K8T. Plan on exchanging the old board with another one and connect everything back up... my thoughts are since I get an identical board, drivers and such shouldn't be a problem. Just not sure if there would be a difference between the K8T and te K8N???

Any thoughts?

thanks

There are big differences between the two. They use chipsets from different vendors (nVIDIA vs. VIA), so their drivers would be incompatible. You should find an nForce3 motherboard in order to have a better chance of being able to boot the original OS without issues. Whatever you do, try to ensure that you can obtain a full set of drivers for the motherboard so that if they aren't automatically recognized, at least you'll be able to manually install the drivers.

I have a K8N Neo2 (NF3) available if you find you need to go that route. Let me know if you want to work a deal for it.

Just wanted to say I've had 2 MSI boards in the past, and both failed within two days. A friend of mine had one fail on him after a single boot. If you can go with a different manufac, I would.

Edit: Just read that you already had an MSI board die. I really should stop replying before I read. :p Yeah, good luck with the new one man. And next time go DFI or something.

Well this build was my first...lasted about 3 years. Went with a dfi on another machine. Works ok cept the fan sounds like it is gonna take off. Want to get another board with this machine so as I can get "the most" out of the other components in the system. Only place I have been able to find 939 boards is ebay. Thanks for all the info and if you have any other things that would be helpful don't hesitate to say something.

drifter, replied to your PM. My board was received working from a friend, but I will verify its working/non-working condition. I have had nothing but good luck from my MSI boards, and altho I only have two amongst my many PCs, both are bulletproof and I disagree with the notion that all MSI boards are junk. That's like saying all Seagate HDs are junk based on the 1.5tb fiasco (I have one of them too).

My MSI boards:
MSI P6N Platinum
MSI 7411 Media Diva 5.1

I've sold approximately 8 MSI 845 boards over the past two years and NONE of them have come back (even two years later) with issues involving the board. MSI has had their ups and downs just like Abit, Asus, Epox, eVGA ... etc, etc, etc. To blindly rule out all of a company's boards based on a sample of one or two is silly.

I wish you well with the repair, drifter, and let me know if I can help out any further.
