MSI motherboard (PM8M-V) + celeron 2.93mhz

hello all... i was wondering if you guys can help me..

I just received my new MSI motherboard (PM8M-V) + celeron 2.93mhz from TigerD. The motherboard looks like this..
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications...etails.asp?EdpNo=1597452&sku=M452-2436

I've carefuly inserted the celeron chip + heatsink + fan, then connected the power supply (atx 20pin + atx 12v power connector), keyboard/mouse, RAM, and monitor connected to the built-in vga port. I left the motherboard resting on top of a soft wood for initial testing purposes. And I didn't connect any optical drive or harddrive because I just want to get to BIOS first.

problem: no boot, no bios screen, no beep, fan rotated for 1/2 second.

what i've done:
* verified power supply is good by connecting it to my older Aopen AX45-8XN + P 2.4ghz.
* verified RAM (DDR400 PC3200) is good by connecting it to my older Aopen AX45-8XN + P 2.4ghz.
* reset CMOS couple of times + took out the batteries for 15 minutes.. and still no boot.
* used my older P 2.4ghz chip on the new MSI board and still no boot, no beep, no bios screen.

please help !! Thank you guys .

wow that was a quick reply 🙂 thanks 🙂

oh yea. i've also tried the new celeron 2.93 on my old AOPEN motherboard.. NO BOOT !
my old Aopen motherboard

so its probably dead cpu and dead motherboard ? 🙁

The Celeron you have is a Prescott based Celeron D which isn't supported by your older Aopen board, so it's more than likely nothing is wrong with the CPU. Have you verified the CMOS jumper isn't in the clear CMOS position? Did you unplug the power cord when you did the CMOS reset? Both your old and new cpu appear to be fully supported without even requiring a bios update, so it is looking to be a motherboard issues.

What I was getting at 😉

oh thank you so much guys 🙂 especially the clarification the fact that prescott celeron D can't be tested on Aopen. I appreciate your helps 🙂

dang.. i received my replacement mobo today .. SAME PROBLEM !! no boot , no beep.

Once powered-up, the CPU FAN spun 1/2 seconds and thats it ! The MSI Tech refused to do a similar setup to test it himself.. All I want is for him to get the same MOBO, add power supply, a PC3200 DDR400 RAM, and any Celeron CPU with heatsink/fan.. and test as barebone ( not mounted in a computer case ). I want him to see maybe we're missing a jumper setting or such.

the other MSI tech guy told me all it need is power supply, and the cpu fan should keep spinning even if I don't have the power switch jumpered.

DANG IT !! 🙁 so I'm fedexing the 2 mobo and 1 cpu (might not be refundable) .. PAIN !
