Spotted at the AMD FX experience show today.

I want 🙁

I have 2 7970s already.

Are you sure those are lightnings? Don't lightnings have a wider than normal pcb?
If those cards are using refrence boards than I wouldn't consider them lightnings.

They were lightnings, pictured at the AMd - HardOCP FX gaming experience convention today.

Ill give you $500 for both if you want the upgrade...

lolwut

Not necessarily wider than normal, but they are custom and have been using MSI's Twin Frozr III cooler.

Wonder what these would sell for, especially if reference stays priced the way it is now. Probably close to $650 🙁

I think they might be Twin Frozr III models, unless my eyes are failing me, they are using 8+6 power connectors. The lightnings would be 8+8.

I may not even get the lightnings now that I am doing water. I don't think they often make water blocks for custom cards.

If you search Newegg for 6970 lightning or 580gtx lightning you'll notice that both cards (in the image gallery) are using the the wider pcb boards and have 2x 8pin connectors. The cards in the OP have only 2x 6pin connectors and normal looking pcb boards.
However there is a Twin Frozr III 6950 which looks similar to the pics in the OP but MSI doesn't call them lightnings.

Good point, i'll wait for the write up on the event. Should be on the web tomorrow or so.

Looks like dual DVI connectors. Which makes me think these are not 7000 series. Although it is possible MSI changed the connector config.

How are you guys even so sure? I can't tell if its 2x 6 pin or 2+8 in that picture, too small.

HOWEVER. People in attendance at the event stated it was touted as a TF3 7970. I take them at their word, because they were there and I wasn't. Please tell me why on earth AMD and MSI would show at 6950 at this event?

I'm 99% sure it was a 7970, maybe a pre release version. This was at the big AMD this past weekend, it would make absolutely no sense for MSI to showcase 6950s. People in attendance claimed MSI touting it as a 7970.

10 pin PCIe? If that PSU did have 10 pin capability, then you would think it would be 6 + 2 + 2 for universal fit. We see that the top card has two of the +2's not connected, and assuming they are using a standard PSU that would mean it was connected via 2x6 pin. Do you have higher resolution pics? I'm sure your camera took higher res images.

It's definitely not dual 8. You can see at least one of the extra +2 connector coming off the the 6+2 8-pin power connectors for each card. If anything, its 6 and 8, like a reference 7970.

I think it's because on the card in the back at least, you can see both of the +2 power connectors hanging it off, making them both 6 pins.

Edit: they've already mentioned it ^^
