the bridges on mine are connected with loctite, but perhaps something got messed up somehow when I put the heatsink on. Either that, or bad mobo it seems

Is it possible that if thermal grease covers the L1-L4 bridges that it can cause problems? If so, could this be the reason why it can not post higher than 8.5? I am stumped. 37 degrees celcius is still within range.

hmm interesting I will take that suggestion and see if there is any thermal paste that got onto there...when I say stable at 37 celcius that is at 900mhz using 8.5 multiplier and 106 bus speed, so I'm sure I should be able to at least use the 9 multiplier.

If thermal paste is conductive, then isn't it possible that as we place the heat sink on the cpu to get some thermal paste on the L1-L4 bridges without even realizing it? Hell this could be the reason for many peoples multiplier problems. I wonder what others think about this potential problem?

Those bridges are quite a ways from the core...it would have to be spread pretty liberal on the heat sink to get over there.

Another thought for you...it MAY be your heat sink/fan. I've tested a setup with only the HSF being different and gotten some interesting results.

okay hmmm took off heatsink, everything seemed fine...so i connected the L7 bridges...now default voltage shows as 1.87 in bios. I proceed to try a multiplier of 9...no post
for kicks, I try 9.5, and somehow it worked!
now I've tried 9 many times and still can't get it to post, but it's been posting at 9.5 everytime. weird

when I run Prime95 I get an error halt right away tho. Anyway to further increase stability??
