MSI KT7 Pro 2 (Bios v2) and optical Mice

Optical Mice (like the Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer or Logitech optical Wheel Mouse) don't seem to work as precisely on the MSI KT7 Pro 2 as on other boards (like the Pro 2-A for example.. ?!!). If you move the mouse a little to fast it jumps wildly over the desktop, and one can at most get a 4 pixel accuracy! Oddly, with the latest IntelliPoint (v3.2) drivers it is worse than with v3.1 drivers.

It is definately not a hardware problem (we've tested several Explorer mice) and should therefore be a software or a bios-settings problem. I've flashed the latest v2.0 bios but it still behaves weird. I've exactly ported the bios settings of a friend of mine who uses the MSI KT7 Pro 2-A and while it works on his machine, it doesn't on mine.
On the machine of another friend, who also has a KT7 Pro 2 and an Logitech optical Wheel Mouse, the mouse behaves oddly too.

It shouldn't be an os-problem either, since I've just yesterday installed Win98 on a formatted hard-disk and my friend with the Logitech mouse uses WinME.

We've also tested countless bios-settings, but since we're no hardware-cracks we don't know if we've eliminated the bios as the trouble-source.

We two are very f***ed up, since we've both invested more than 600$ on our new computers and all we get is an oddly behaving mouse... ;)

My machine consists of:
Duron 800,
MSI KT7 Pro 2 w. Bios v2.0, (didn't work with 1.6 either)
256 MB PC-133 RAM,
Microsoft IntelliExplorer w. Intellipoint 3.1 (3.2 was worse),
Win98.

My friends machine is a quite simmilar:
Duron 800m
MSI KT7 Pro 2 w. Bios v2.0, (didn't work with 1.6 either),
128 MB PC-100 RAM,
Logitech optical Wheel Mouse,
WinME.

Thanks for your help,
the Duron Brothers... :)

Hmm,

That's weird!

It just so happens that two weeks ago, I went from an Epox 8kta2
to an MSI pro2a for no good reason other than "everyone's doin it"!

The epox board performed flawlessly, and I don't overclock anyways.

4 days after putting in the MSi board and a fresh win me install,
my intellimouse optical started acting funny. Sometimes the red light
would flicker and sometimes even die upon rapid movement across the screen
and whatnot.

I've heard MS mice are notorious for shorts after a while, so I
went and got another and guess what? Same damned problem!

The red light will flicker, then die sometimes or come on and off and on again etc.
then it'll lock the whole machine up when it dies. A one fingered reboot always
brings it back to life (albiet for only a while) This fact alone makes
me think it's something in the USB system. (not using a hub, just using the root
hub on the board, not extra 2)

I have not a clue what setting or piece of silicon might be causing it, but
I know the only thing that's changed is my motherboard and now I'm really getting
peeeoed.

other than this little anomaly I'm pleased with the Pro2a, but frankly, I think
I'll return to the Epox board or maybe get their KT133a board coming in the next two weeks
The 8kta+3.

Lemme know if you guys have experienced any of this stuff or have any ideas
what to look for in a solution.

I have the Optical Trackball Explorer and K7T Pro 2-A. I was having the same problem. I figured out that acceleration must be set to low. It's the advanced tab in the pointer options menu on Intellipoint 3.2. Good Luck!

Well, even without mouse acceleration it doesn't work properly... Microsoft and MSI Support aren't very supportive either.. :(

have you tried a different mousing surface? I used to have that problem alot more with a mouse pad I was using.. because it had repetitive paterns on it..
