MSI KT333 and System crashes randomly!

Just got the MSI KT333 with PC2700 RAM + a Maxtor ATA133 HDD. Using these components plus my GF2 GTS and a second HDD with is ATA100 I build a WinXP system, and it crashed on me occationally and randomly. If I left the machine idle nothing will happen (yet), but sometimes when I played a game (Monopoly Tycoon) it just rebooted the system! Games like Jedi Knight II ran fine. I tried to transfer 9 Files in total of 5GB over the LAN it worked but when I transfer 20,000 files (1GB total) between two HDD it crashed twice. Sometime out of the blue, for example browsing the web or browsing the HDD content the system rebooted. I suspect something wrong with the HDD interface or the new ATA133 chipset. Anyone has any experience?

Through my experience building systems, random lockups/reboots can be related to bad memory, bad motherboard, old video card/chipset drivers. I would first make sure you have the latest 4in1 via drivers installed as well as the latest detonator xp drivers. I would then check the memory, if you have 2 sticks of memory pull 1 and run the system to see if you have lockups, try the same with the other stick. I recently had 1 stick of ddr go bad on me causing random lockups and reboots.

Good Luck

I have the latest Creative Labs driver, but I know it is not as new as the Detonator XP, which I will give it a try later tonight.

The 4-in-1 driver is the latest on from the VIA web site. That actually brings up a wierd observation of mine. I checked VIA Bus Master IDE Controller Properties and I noticed the version of the file is 5.1.3597.0, which is newer than the standard XP drive (5.1.2600.0) but the date was rolled backward, the new driver date is 01/07/2001 but previous version of the VIA drive has the date 18/10/2001... Wierd.

But anyway, the latest 4-in-1 was in.

Memory... it is the PC2700, 1 stick only. If I am not mistaken the KT333 can take PC133 as well, right?

No, not PC133, just PC2700. You might be able to use PC2100 but you wont run at 333 bus speed. Which MSI board do you have?KT3 Ultra with or without raid?
