msi kt3-ultra2 fsb problem

I'm in the process of building a system for a friend, the specs are:

athlon 1600+ ( agoia)
msi kt3-ultra2
256 kingmax pc2700
maxtor 40g 7200rpm ata133
thermaltake volcano 9 (using ac3)
enermax 350w psu
teac 1.44 floppy
lite-on 40x12x48 cd-rw
chaintech geforce4 ti4200 128mb
winXP home sp1

The thing runs great at the default bios setting of 100fsb but will not go over 120fsb,
it either locks up or reboots. I clean installed winXP then via drivers then nvidia det 40.41 drivers.
I also checked the cpu by exchanging the new one with the AGOIA 1600 that I have been running
at 1.67g on my own system, still no 133fsb:disgust: I'm pretty new to this as it's is my first post here,
and the first system i have built from the bottom up. Thanks in advance for any and all help. I need it!

Hmm... I'm not familiar with this board, but may be there's a jumper that enables 133 and beyod FSB's?

Try reset your bios settings.

I am using the default bios settings and just changing the fsb.
I have read in the msi forums that the psu is one reason for this.
Do you guys think the enermax 350w psu strong enough?
I'm pretty sure there's not a 133 & above jumper.

I'm not sure on what could be wrong, but I have built a few systems on this board...all 1800+ and there is no 133 jumper needed, they worked first try. I've never seen a problem at all with this board, everything has always worked first boot.

necrolezbeast, what's the highest fsb you've achieved? I can only do 150. (AGOIA 1600XP : multiplier 10.5 x fsb 150 = 1.6Ghz). I can't seem to change the multiplier any higher than 10.5. I thought AGOIA cores are unlocked!??? I could be wrong though.

I got one to 147fsb but didn't test for major stability, it worked fine in all the games and just playing around. I'm pretty sure it would have crashed if it were under intense work considering it was an 1800+. Well, I'm buying this board again, for myself this time, this afternoon to go with my 1600+ agoia but I'm sure my pc2100 will hold me back from any real overclocking. I'm going to attempt 166fsb, but probably not til I get some XMS 3000c2 or something like it. I'll post back with steps of installing the board and tell you if I can see a jumper(although I'm sure there isn't one).

Check the memory settings set it all conservatively. If it boots then try a faster setting. My computer will lock up or reboot if I try use 2,5,5,2 but runs fine at 2,6,6,3. I tried lowering each one at a time while leaving the rest at the highest setting. That's the setting that doesn't give errors,reboots,freezes etc....

You could try selecting the option for "load high performance defaults". I just put this board in my system with an XP 2400 and it would not show the chip as a 2400 until I did this. Kept saying it was an 1800 even though I flashed the bios too. Before loading high pefromance defaults I tried setting the bus to 133 and the core ratio to 15, like the MSI site said, but it would not post with those manually entered. I went back after loading high performance def. to see how it was set then and the core ratio was set to auto, and the FSB to 133. Hope this helps.
