MSI KT3 Ultra

Heya,

I ordered a KT3 Ultra online....approximately 3 days later, after the order already shipped from SMK Components, the KT3 Ultra2 was released.

Is it worth the 11 dollars to send it back and get the Ultra2? As far as I know the only difference between the 2 is onboard USB 2. And I don't mind getting a USB 2 card for the Ultra - that's if I ever really need it.

Furthermore I had decided to send the board back and get the ARU till I found out that you can't use the
extra IDE ports for anything else than raid. According to MSI, the raid ports can ONLY BE USED in RAID configurations. Is this true? Anyone with an ARU that can tell me different?

My friend has the Abit KT266A board....he says he can use his raid ports for extra hard drives, for a total of 8 IDE devices.

Someone help me out, please.

I just ordered my PC with the ARU from www.IBUYPOWER.com At first and i ordered it with 1 HD and he said it was fine. But later that day i said what the hell and ordered another for a raid config.

Call them up and ask " If i get the MSI KT3 ARU Do i have to order two HD for a raid config or can i only have one.." something like that. They are very helpful, and CHEAP if you order a PC from there.

Hmmm,

So then you got 1 hard drive to work on the raid ide port?

Because in essence, that's what I mean. I want to use all the ports for regular IDE use. Ofcourse I realize you can't use a cdrom/dvd/cdr etc. on any raid port - I simply want it for more hard drives. I don't want to run a raid config though.

Well, hopefully someone will get back to me on this.

Thanks.

I have an ARU and its setup like that.

What?

Please clarify?

You have it in what setup? Raid or are you just using all the ide ports for normal hard drive use?

As I said - I want regular ATA operation, not raid.

Get back, please.

I have a single HDD on IDE 3...as you wrote, the Promise controller-at least with the MSI BIOS' released to this point-will only support HDDs.
