OK, I made a new machine for a friend, and here's the specs:
MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU
Athlon XP 2000+
300w Sparkle PSU
1x 512MB Kingston PC2100
80GB WD Caviar
generic 32x12x48 CDRW
Abit Siluro GF4 Ti 4600
Now, up through the winxp install and 4in1 install, all went great. Not one single problem. Got the 4.38 4in1s, newest dets and DX 8.1 on...all was good.
Restarted several times putting on 3Dmark, Sandra, etc.
Great. The benchmarks are all matching with comparable parts in sandra, and the 3Dmark score is only a few % below the normal for hardware site benchmarks (which just means I'm on a non-tweaked machine).
Then, I restart...beep, beep, beep.
Check the DLED...looks like it is stuck on memory. Reseating memory and changing DIMM slots does nothing.
Reseat the GF4 and it starts flwlessly.
I can't very well give the machine to him like this, so any idea what is going on?
In addition, when I shut down from WinXP, it tries to restart (but can't, as stated above) instead of shutting down. May not be related, but can't be too certain.
TIA
