MSI KT3 Integrated Audio / ATP3

I have the model with the 6-channel integrated sound, but am only running a 2.1 setup (Altec Lansing ATP3). The problem is, music sounds great, but to hear speech in movies (divx or DVD), I have to turn the volume up so much, that when the volume peaks in the movie, it's unbearable. I've tried playing with the equalizer, but it's not really a complete solution. Has anyone else experienced this problem with computer video setups? I just want it to sound like a normal movie, not like quake3.

I have seen notes included with DVD movies that explain that there is a dynamic range problem with sound. In other words there is such a difference from the quietest to the loudest sound in the movie that for the viewer to get the best effect the volume must be set as loud as it will go. An example that comes to mind is " The Thin Red Line". Your only solution is to "ride" the volume control as you watch the movie otherwise if you have the volume turned up enough to be able to understand the dialouge you are going to get blasted when grenades are lobbed at the bad guys.

So unless I have my finger on the throttle the entire movie, I'm stuck with the ear-splitting sound effects?

I remember some comercial gimmick where the magnavox guy was screaming but when you pushed their magic-button-of-technology, his voice was limited to a certain volume.

Perhaps something similar exists in a program somewhere? Please help, this is driving me crazy!
