A friend purchased this mb in a computer package & I went to install a liteon 40x burner as slave to the pioneer 16x dvd on the secondary channel but get a 'not an atapi device' warning on boot up and its not recognized by the winXP os.

I swapped the two devices around and the liteon was recognized as master but no dvd slave. Each will work alone on the channel. I'm not familiar with the mb at all but think its something to do with the setup. Anyone have any ideas?

BTW, I also got this burner for myself at the same time and it installed as secondary slave to a pioneer dvd under winXP on my home system so thats why I'm thinking its the mb.

blackhawk,

One of my three computers has the identical setup as you've mentioned, but I had no problem setting it up at all.

Some things to try:

A different cable
Ensure the master/slave settings are correct
reset the mobo to stock settings

Also, you are certain that you are not trying to set it up on the RAID imputs correct?

I have two of these motherboards, both work flawlessly

Heres a link for more info:

Look under the mainboard section for MSI

Unfortunately I'm travelling for the next 2 weeks so cant try anything else till I return. The cable swap I can try then to see if its the secondary connector, the jumpers were both changed at the time and worked each time & I'll do the reset cmos when I get back and note the rest fo the settings.

I did visit amdmb.com and saw one post about a similar problem which a bios upgrade fixed but cant tell which bios is on it now.

Thanks for the ideas though.
