MSI Kt266 Pro2 ---- Quality of the onboard sound ? ------ Make comparison .

Just wondered what the quality is & how it rates ?

If you had to compare it to a SoundBlaster card ........... Which would it be ?
Awe64/128/Live/other ????

Thanks 🙂

I haven't been able to put up with AC97 long enough to really give you a detailed comparison. It is just as crappy as all the other AC97 based onboard sound out there. Three words don't do it!

the AC97 from via 686a/b is pure cpu powered audio codec, not a dsp. sort of like the basic ESS sound chip found on some $5 sound cards.

quality is good, but performance is poor, and only can play 1 audio stream at a time.

I have used the AC 97 sound on my MSI board and I can tell you that it sounds crap! I was playing a CD and it sounded... very two dimensional. I wouldn't use it... I would rather get an SB Live! Value than use the onboard sound.

But that's just me...

If good onboard sound is what you are looking for, you might want to check out the Soyo Dragon+ or the IWill XP333. Both use the C-Media chip which provides good quality, or you could look at an nForce board. Basically, anything other than an AC97 will be fine!
