MSI K9N2GM (7508) issues with ram

Hi fellas, I used to be on here years ago under the nick allanon1965.

I recently got back into building systems again and I have an issue that is puzzling me. The MB in question has an issue with running the kingston hyperX ram in ganged mode(dual channel).

when Ganged is selected in the bios, the system seems to act a little quirky with regards to everyday surfing and such(slow, freezing, etc) it refuses to shutdown...monitor will shut down, but the tower wont turn off...

when unganged is selected, everything works fine..i dont know if its the ram, the cpu, since the memory controller is on the cpu, or if its the motherboard...

any ideas?

I have the MSI K9N6PGM2-V2. I had similar problems when I enabled CnQ and other power saving features. Another problem I can think of is ram incompatibility, but Kingston is usually good with most things, I think....

If it works fine in unganged mode, maybe you should just leave it like that and be done with it.

well i like to run in dual channel mode, i tried a couple sticks of OCZ and it now runs without the issues. the ocz was 6400 and the kingston was 8500...the board max is 6400 so that may have something to do with it, but this is the first time i have had that issue,

always before the faster ram just ran slower...i will just order 2gb dual channel ocz 6400 ram....

I'm just saying if it doesn't hurt performance, or you don't notice a slowdown, it's less trouble to leave it as it is. I mean, if you were gaming on this machine, then maybe it is worth fixing.... But if it was just for websurfing or whatnot, then I probably wouldn't bother.

I did notice a difference in system performance, b ut may have been due to ram incompatabilities more than the single/dual channel issue..
