MSI K9mm-v

I've identified three things I want to purchase to upgrade my main system:
1)ATI 3850 512mb AGP Video card.
2) Dell 24" HD LCD Monitor
and the most questionable of all
3) Kuma 7750 BE CPU.
so, my question lies in whether the K9MM-V will support the Kuma chipset, and does anyone really think the MSI might generate a new BIOS? Some of the discussion I've seen on this site talks about the amount of current/heat the board can support, and with the Kuma being a 65nm chip with I think about 95 TDP, where my +4800 puts out about 125 TDP it might work. Thoughts?

Hmm... the wattage won't be the issue, but BIOS support might. Have you attempted to email MSI?

I think your 4800+ is either 65w or 89w. Depends on the core...

No version of X2 4800+ has TDP greater than 89W. Kuma is not supported and in all likelihood never will be. I would also rethink HD 3850 in AGP. The substantial premium you will pay for the AGP version of this card would be better spent on a new setup with PCI Express.

Yikes, I just looked on Newegg and the cheapest 3850 AGP is $117. That's more than $50 over the PCIe equivalent! You could buy a 3850 & a new mobo for about the same price.

Even better...

BIOSTAR A780G M2+ SE AMD 780G Micro ATX - $50.00 plus shipping (AR)

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4650 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 - $46.00 plus shipping (AR)

Total: ~$112.00 (assuming $16 for shipping)

GDDR2 128-bit would bring performance of the HD 4650 down a bit, but overall a much better setup than HD 3850 in AGP. For $30 ~ $40 more, he could get HD 4830 with GDDR3 256-bit.
