This is my first attempt at an Athlon 64 box. Anyone know if the PS in the Sonata (380W) is up to the task of powering a MSI K8T800?

It'll definately work assuming you aren't putting 5 hard drives, 4 opticals, filling up all of the PCI slots, throwing a 9800XT or 5950 Ultra in and then running tons of powered USB devices (might work then too :p). Don't worry, it's more than enough. Welcome to the Forums!

I'd give a vote of YES, but the real question should be, what else will be in your system?

For a std A64 rig, should be fine

Wow! Thanks for the quick replies, guys. Not much else going in the machine. Athlon 64 3000+, 512MB, 120GB Maxtor SATA, Liteon combo drive. That's about it.

Ya, with what you've got going in there you should be more than fine.

Hey while we are on the subject, how about a K8V, 5 SCSI drives, one SATA, one IDE, one DVD and a 9800pro, one SCSI raid card, audigy2 and 5 case fans ? Will a 430 watt Antec handle that ?

10k Seagate ST318404LW (same size as regular disk drives) Didn't want to spend the bucks on 15k drives, so got more of the 10k ones.

512 meg Kingston Hyperx, soon to be 1 gig. And no, not a Raptor (who needs it with SCSI goodness !!) CPU is an Athlon64 3000+ at 2.2 ghz

I would say it may be tight, I would get a 500W PSU just to be on the safe side, but you could try it out and see if it works for you. If you get random reboots or problems with the system stability, you may want to consider a larger PSU.

Yeah, you might end up needing a HUGE PSU with that stuff, IDK, overclocking uses a lot of watts. If you're overvolting the CPU and RAMs you'll need 700W or bigger, maybe more.
