Hey all, I just got an MSI K8T Neo mobo and put my BFG 6800 OC (128MB RAM) into it. The boot is all fine, but after I installed win xp pro with sp2, the video became really stuttery. i installed 66.93 drivers from nvidia's site, the via 4in1 drivers from msi's site (i didn't install the agp 3.0 drivers from teh 4in1 cuz i read that i shouldn't), but after i installed the drivers it became even more stuttery.

It's so stuttery that I can't even do anything. I have to boot into safe mode to even write this.

the vid card works perfectly in my old comp so I know it isn't the graphics card.

Plz help me!! :(

if you say the your pc works fine in safe mode, it's almost surely a driver prob. but may not nessicarily be the mobo and vid card, could be any driver or combo of drivers. What are your full specs?

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (newcastle)
MSI K8T Neo -FIS2R
512 corsair ram (3200)
512 Avant RAM (3200)
74Gb Raptor 10,000 SATA
BFG Geforce 6800 OC
Soundblaster Live! MP3+ (I think, can't remember, hehe)
Enermax 350Watt PSU
1 40 Gb IBM IDE 133 HD (Deskstar)
DVD-ROM
Plextor CD-RW

It doesn't work 'perfectly' in safe mode either. It's still a bit stuttery when I scroll, but at least it's a small annoyance in this mode. This is the same thing that happens in normal mode before i installed the Nvidia Drivers. (BFG has no propietary drivers, they just refer you to nvidia's drivers)

k, first I don't think this is the cause your problem, but it is A problem: you may seriously consider a bigger power supply, especially with that vid card and 2 hard drives. ( does n e 1 know if not enough power would couse stuttering?) But like I said, if it's safe booting fine, drivers are most likely the prob.

one red flag I see is the 2 kinds of ram. Try taking out the "Avant" stick and booting (once again, don't really think it's your prob but sometimes different kinds of ram don't play well together)

other than those 2 things nothing stands out, so what I would do is uninstall and reinstall your drivers one at a time. So, what I mean is: uninstall one driver, boot, push cancel on the "found new hardware box, play around for a while, if it runs fine w/o just that one, it's probably that one. Then if you reinstall it and it goes back to being choppy, it's deffinately that one.

I really don't know an easier way to snoop out a bad driver. Try this, and if you find it's a bad driver or try and find an alternate one. If this turns up nothing, we'll look for another problem. Meanwhile I'll keep looking for known incompatabilities with these specific devices. Hope it helps!

I've seen the symptoms you describe when the system RAM is a little unstable. You should strip the machine down to bare essentials, using the one best dimm of RAM, one optical drive, and disable sound and any other non-essential components. Unplug case fans and leave the case open. Go into BIOS and set all of you RAM settings to "AUTO", then change only the latencies to milder settings, IF it is high-performance CAS 2 RAM. Be aware that some RAM won't run well at more than one step milder CAS setting (CAS 2 RAM might run at CAS 2.5 but not CAS 3, for example.) If your memory is rated CAS 2.5, set it to 2.5-4-4-10, and set dimm voltage to at least 2.6v.

When you said you didn't install the VIA 3.0 AGP driver, you didn't say whether you installed one at all, or not. If you didn't, that's going to cause chronic texture loading problems, and may be your whole problem. Go into driver properties and look at the AGP settings. If it's running in PCI mode, you need to install an AGP driver.

i tried with both the via 4in1 v455 agp 3.0 drivers, and the win xp base drivers (some say this is more stable) with no luck. This is a fresh install of win xp, not an upgrade, and all drivers are fresh installs too
