I have a system: AMD Athl64 Socket 939 3000+
512DDR 400 RAM PQI
MSI K8NGM2 Sok 939 MB
VGA ATI HD2400 PRO PCI-E

HDD 160GB Sata WD1600JS

The problem is, the system got a BSOD and after that it shut down.
After this event the system won't boot.
I tried the standard procedure. remove all PnP devices, reset BIOS - no boot.
I tried new PSU - won't boot
I tried new RAM, cleaning and switchig RAM slots....same...no boot.

What remains to be done? New MB?
I have to be sure about this so that I won't invest money in a new MB unless is strictly necessary. Any other ideas?

thak you in advance

Hi,

I have a similar problem with a MSI K8NGM2 mainboard.
The board doesn't boot and does not even generate a beep-code. Dark screen.
I've got the information that the BIOS chip (if it's the PM 49FL004T-33JC) is not reliable and often causes problems.
I ordered a new BIOS chip. In a few days I can tell you whether or not this fixed my problem.

Yeah...My Company worked a lot with the damn chip(VIA I think is the problem), I CAN say for true that is not reliable....Lots of failures. Problem solved, changed it with a Gigabyte MP61 based chip:) Now boots just fine
BTW nice avatar :)) a bad crow:))

Hi falcOne,

nice to hear that your mainboard is running again - mine is still dead. Before I replaced the BIOS chip, I had checked everything I could. I thought it would be the chip because some weeks ago I had a similar probelm also with a dark screen: The add-on graphik card had been kicked out of the configuration. After CMOS clear and restoring the right configuration it worked fine for 2 or 3 weeks, then failed again but this time the CMOS clear didn't work and I concluded that the whole BIOS boot block was corrupted or the chip died. But it was not the BIOS chip, it seems. O.K., I gave up with this board. I found the same board (used) for a reasonable price in the internet, hoping, that the problem really is the mobo and not the CPU.

As far as I know, the AMIBIOS would indicate a bad CPU with beep codes but there was no beep code...so the CPU should be o.k. Well, the hope dies in the end (german saying ;-)

I'll see...

BTW: It's a good raven ;-)

I similar trouble, eventually had to reinstall windows. I believe it was the video card drivers, but I couldn't confirm.

Well, it was the motherboard. The CPU, add-on graphics card and RAM are fine and could be re-used and the system is running again.
The new mobo also has the PMC flash BIOS chip (which clearly was not the root cause for my problems) but in any case: I'm prepared ;-)

I've had 3 of these boards fail in 2 different systems, same symptoms: no beeps, no nada. So yeah, not so reliable. If it wasn't such a pain activating Windows on a different motherboard, I'd stop replacing them. At least they don't take the CPU/memory with them when they go.
