MSI K8N Plat-SLI old IDE drives not recognized

I have a new system with a brand new SATA drive installed and XP. I am trying to put two IDE drives from my old system into it. I have two DVD-ROM drives on IDE 2 that are recognized fine. But the two IDE hard drives are not recognized on IDE 1.

It boots fine from SATA and sees both DVD-ROM drives. The IDE drives appear to not even be there. Any ideas? BIOS doesn't see them either.

Thanks

J
