I thought that I had dug out all my old parts and just bought the things needed to finish out a build. But no. Now I see that I have not one but two 939 motherboards. I want to use up all my old parts, but really hesitate to build two obsolete systems. So, between the MSI K8N Neo4 and Asus A8N-SLI which is better? And why?

Good question.

if this is the asus a8n sli premium, i'd say you can't go wrong. It's one of the best mb made out there for 939 sockets. But if you have
the MSI k8n Neo4 Platinum/Sli, you're in big trouble imho, because it's like comparing a Lamborghini with a Ferrari, matter of taste. For
what you wanna do, surfing the web mostly, both will give you entire satisfaction.

If i were you, i'd put the boards side by side and pick the nicest looking one.
My 2 cents.

MSI is Platinum.

Not sure if Asus is Premium or not. The box says AI Proactive?

Only the ASUS Premium has AI-Selector which let's you turn off 2nd SLI card with a soft-switch. If your MB doesn't say Premium then it ain't.

go to asus.com and check the pictures of A8N. there's 4 models. A8N SLI, SE, Premium and Deluxe. Whichever you have is still a great MB.

I have (had) an A8N-SLI Premium. It was very picky about memory, but other than that, it was an excellent motherboard. It actually makes me miss the Socket 939 days.

The Deluxe version had some reported problems with the (northbridge?) fan. The Premium model went to a heatpipe design instead.

Ya it was the southbridge's fan. And you shouldn't try to upgrade its BIOS. Quite frequently they tend to die during the process. Not sure if the BIOS problem affects other versions but I wouldn't try it.
