MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum

I've had this motherboard for a year (link) and I currently have an Athlon 64 3000+ Winchester at stock speed.

Sometime in the future, I want to upgrade to an Opteron Dual Core (165, 170, etc). Will this motherboard support it? I've heard of some people having problems with it, that's why.

TIA 🙂

Having the same mobo with a Venice... Great combo... It should be no problem at all, BIOS version 1.B states "Update CPU ID", so that will contain the X2s as well... It actually says Athlon X2 Dual Core Ready...

BTW To avoid any hassle, make sure your BIOS is updated before you switch CPUs...

EDIT: Sorry, have been talking about X2s 😀... No, the Opteron is a regular S939 CPU, so that will give no problems... It might not be fully recognised (referring to "AMD Unknown CPU" or giving it another core name...), but they will perfectly work...

So I guess it's just a matter of updating the BIOS before the switch.

Thanks, I just wanted to make sure.
