How in the world are you able to run such a high FSB on this board. I couldn't manage to get above about 270Mhz stable at all, even after dropping the CPU and HT multis way down.

i'm doing 300x9 with an x2... u do have to hard code the mem parms...

Haven't these been out of stock for at least 2 months now? I say this thread no longer needs to be in the Hot Deals forum. I keep seeing it reappear on the first page only to see its a comment about someones current experience and not that it's in stock again.

I recommend this thread be moved to the motherboard forums so I won't keep thinking I can buy one.

Thanks

OK, the solution for you is to hit the Alert button at geeks.com's page for the mobo. When it's in stock, you'll get an email and you can ignore this thread wherever it may be. I just did...

my guess is this deal won't be back as it was a bulk OEM lot from Fujitsu-Siemens--thus the original Fujitsu-Siemens splash screen. I'll sell ya mine for $65 :)

Well I for one don't ever get tired of this thread. There's a reason it's still going on. A great motherboard for a great price. I bought two of them and they are both still going strong.....one on vista and one on xp. Hopefully I didn't just jinx myself.....lol!!

Looks pretty awesome to me... I just started researching what's out there in terms of bang for the buck, and this looks right up there near the top, maybe the best. I bought a mobo already, so I won't be upgrading again soon, but this one appears far better than what I got (MSI K8N Neo v2.0H). However, I didn't know about it then, and it wasn't available anyway. Back when it was available from geeks.com, I didn't know squat and wasn't looking. I was in Frys yesterday, and I saw dozens of mobos on display and I didn't see one I'd prefer to this. They sold from anywhere from $40 to $350.

I have 3 GB of PC3200 ram and I was thinking of building a new PC around a K8N NEO4-F.

For a somewhat decent gaming PC, could anyone recommend a good "bang for the buck" CPU and PCI-E graphics card to pair with this? I was thinking something like a $95 7600GT and one of those $96 Opteron 165 that Newegg is selling.

Since the white box K8N motherboards are sold out I'd end up buying a retail board for about $75. I'm open to suggestions if there are other motherboards that I might want to consider.

I haven't built a new PC in a few year so I'm open to suggestions. Budget-wise, I'd like to stay in the same ballpark as the components above.

Thanks!

Bob

Been a while since I visited this thread....... I have two of these MB's and they are running beautifully. Put another together for a friend, and his is also fine. I found a little better deal for you: $62.98 shipped.
Also, the Opteron 165 is $94 Shipped. at Zipzoomfly....

Your CPU and video combo sounds fine. Drop a cheap 2-300 gb HD into it, and one of the $30 DVD burners, and you'll have a bunch of fun ;)

Thanks for the helpful advice. I have a DVD burner and a 200 GB PATA hard drive ready to use.

I'll definitely check out the K8T NEO2-F board that you linked.

This thread really refuses to die... :)

Geezerman!!! I'm shocked you're selling it. Is that DFI board really worth it? I'd probably run another with a $50 CPU... except I already have too many older boxes. I'm waiting on the quads and another 6 months before seriously entertaining a new system.

Thanks for the heads up! Right now I'm leaning towards a retail box but I'll let you know if that changes.

Heck, I got boards coming out of my ears over here. I just sold my Opty 165. My MSI board is excellent, with an overclocking ability that is better than many others. My neighbor buddy just went quad, I now have his DFI Expert board to sell ( like 90 days use on it). He gave me his 3800+ X2 as a freebie, I'm trying it in the MSI board. No problems there, nice CPU.
The DFI SLI Expert is a better board than the MSI, as it should be given the very large retail price it had. It gives you more bios options, but really only needed if you want to play with various ram settings, other obscure settings that serious overclockers want to mess with. It also has a FSB that will go very high, but here again, higher than most people need. I'm not married to anything I own....well, I do have some 20 year old comfy underwear that I won't throw out....

If anything qualifies as TMI, that would be it. :)

BTW, a link to your FS thread would be helpful.

Has any one tried an Opteron 185 in this board. MSI website and Tech. support both say only up to 180. I couldn't see why it wouldn't support a 185.

Please let me know.

I should envy you the boards coming out your ears, but I don't. I don't have time to play with them anymore. My time is being eaten up by cataloging my negative collection with that spiffy new Epson 4990 I just bought thanks to this forum. It's very nice. Also, I've gone Mac (shock of shockers;) and my MBP is wonderful for what I need. My desktop has been relegated to a few select tasks, including games should I ever get back on track for that.

But the quads will make a nice secondary dev box, and a good place to run DBs and app servers, which is why I'm eagerly awaiting a nicely priced quad system.

Wow, glad to see this thread is still going! My board is still running strong with my Opty165.
