Apparently, someone has successfully modded the MSI K8N Neo-4F to support SLi and SATA II. All it requires is a pencil to bridge the resistor on the NF4 chip (brings back the old days of Athlon chips).

It seems the board is made in China... that is the reason why it's so cheap.

So what are the differences between the F and the Platinum. Also how can you mod it to work with SLI if it only has 1 pci-e 16x slot?

He used the pci-e 4x slot for the second video card.

The difference between the F and Platinum are features like Firewire which isn't offered for F. Reading in the other forums, it appears that the Platinum and the F use the same PCB and that you can use the Platinum BIOS files for the F motherboard. Sounds pretty sweet so far.

i picked up the neo4-f and it is pretty much identical to the platinum. did not have any issues overclocking from within the bios either. running a 3200+ at 240x10 although there is a cold boot issue. dont know why because my tagan 480 seems to be giving it stable voltage. waiting on a few more beta testers to mod it to SATA2 and SLI =)

Is the cold boot issue common for the ne04-f? I'm curious...thanks.

It's important to note that rev 2 is plagued with problems and also, the mod only works on the rev 1 because they have used an enamel to protect the chip from being modded on the new revs.

i upped the chipset voltage from default 1.5 to 1.55 and haven't noticed any cold boot issues so far. hopefully this fixes the issue.
