MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum BIOS v1.5...

I just downloaded the 1.5 BIOS from MSI's site today, and when I get home, I will flash. I am currently using the 1.4 version, and everything works correctly. However, I would like to know what the following does (this is an exact copy from the MSI site):

- Update NVPXE version to 2.03.0469.
- Update CBROM version to 1.47.
- Update NVRAID version to 4.81.

What do these updates do, if anything. I know some of you could give a crap about the "old-style" AGP, but I don't have the option of upgrading to PCI-E, and I am perfectly happy with what I have. Anyway, I would appreciate the help, as I would like to believe that I will get at least something out of flashing the BIOS. Thanks again.

I flashed the Neo2 rite when the new BIOS came out. I have yet to notice anything different.

IIRC It was released just to fix some obscure problem.

Well, thats a bummer, 'cause I was really hoping to see someone that had a performance increase of some degree.

Anyway, do you know what those updates do, and what they fix? I'm just extremely curious, and have to know what is fixed with every update and patch I download, no matter how small or insignificant. I guess, in that respect, I am obsessive-compulsive.

Also, when I flashed the BIOS (within Windows), then restarted, Windows "Found New Hardware". It reinstalled my AGP Controller as well as my IDE Controller. I wonder if something was fixed with the 2 of those with this BIOS?

I'm not really sure what the fix was. No "found new hardware" for me. Actually, I really dislike this MB, and plan to replace it soon. The only reason I haven't yet, is because I like this (AGP) video card.

I'm sure your question is answered here.

What don't you like about it? I have had no problems with it, and in fact, this is the best mobo I have ever had. And thats a statement coming from me, as I have had MANY mobos in the past. This is actually my first AMD system, as, before Prescott came out, I had been a diehard Intel fanboy. But, since Prescott sucks copious amounts of ass compared to AMD's offerings, especially at my pricepoint, I gave in to my friend's push for AMD.

Anyways, as I was saying, this mobo is the best I have ever had. Before, the best mobo I had was my P2\P3 mobo, based on Intel's classic 440BX. That has now fallen to a close #2, but it was still rock-solid, as is my Neo2. I, in fact, have only had 3 BSOD's since getting this board, and 2 of them were the fault of NVIDIA's display drivers conflicting with DEP. The other was my own fault, and I don't even remember off hand what I did, it was so long ago.

This update did almost nothing. It still detects Winchesters as 1.50v, but actually sets the voltage at 1.36v.

The only change I see is that even if you set your power management to "Desktop PC," Cool n Quiet will still run. Before, it required the power management to be set at "Minimal."

I too hate this board. A lot. I wish there were some nice 939 boards out there, I sold this to my dad for really cheap with a winnie 3000+ and my old 6800 for cheap, but it runs so crappy that I am going to replace it for him this summer at my expense. By crappy I mean no oc'ing ability compared to the Epox it was in before (that was a POS too but at least it was fast) and finicky in every other way possible.

I was not aware that it undervolted so much, I am going to have to check into that to see if that might be the crappy OC culprit...
