MSI K8N Neo2 + Geforce 6800gt: no boot -- help?

I've been struggling with a new set of parts, specifically an MSI k8n neo2 platinum (939), athlon 64 3500+, corasir xms 3200 (2-2-2-5) and a pny geforce 6800gt.

the problem is, the system won't boot with the 6800gt. all the fans will spin for like 2 seconds and then it just gives up. if I put in my (very) old geforce2 gts it works great -- but that's not exactly the killer doom3 system I just poured all that money after.

the 6800 works great in my old system (msi k7master + 2100+) as does the ram. when I have the gts in the new one, it's amazingly fast (3500 is a nice upgrade) so I don't think it's the cpu either.

antec truepower 430 (bought this spring, also works great with the other combo).

agp voltage? memory timings? anything? I've already sent the motherboard back and allegidly gotten an new one (though I got all my old packaging from zipzoomfly which makes me wonder) and that's functioning exactly as what I have now.

thanks for your help!

MSI = RMA

Actually...
Do you have the molex to vid card? Any beeps on boot? I might say PSU is teh suck but don't wanna offend antec fans.It's 12V rail is too low for that system I think...

Really I'm leaning PSU is a dog or MSI board's not supplying enough amperage that card.

the molex is plugged in and there are no beeps. if I don't plug the molex in (yeah, I forgot the first time and leared this the hard way) I'll get beeping.

was under the impression that antec was the best psu? this one won anand's roundup a while back it seems... I did try just booting with only the hard drive (no burner/dvd) and that didn't help. (maxtor sata 120gb, also new)

Reset cmos, Plug just 20pin mobo cable, 12V mobo cable in to mobo. 6800 into mobo. Molex into 6800. Processor/HSF. That's it, no drives, no drive cables. And try to get into bios.

nothings overclcoked if you reset coms. Board is where I'm leaning. I mean PSU is hardy powering anything with everything disconnected. Have you tried the PSU your using in the machine your posting here with? Try that.

yeah, the machine with the gf2 is the machine that won't take the gf6800 -- it's just a question of swapping cards. I don't have the old psu (cycled the old 300 down the chain of less fortunate computer users...) but I'll see if I can find another psu. what would you estimate the minimum wattage for this system?
