Hi all,

I was wondering if this MB can handle dual core. I have the latest bios installed.

I see that the Opteron has default voltage of 1.3/1.35 and it looks like this MB starts at 1.4. Will this be an issue. I guess this will be mute if it doesn't work at all.

LMK
Thx

Yes I used to run an Opteron 165 which is a dual core, and I managed to get this upto 2.8Ghz, but ran it at 2.6Ghz. I can confirm that all dual cores will work with the MSI K8N Neo 2 plat. I preferred to use BIOS 1.B when OCing.

Thanks RichUK.. Nice chip there. I have the 1.B bios installed.

I will be going from a venice 3000+ to a 165 . I hear that the single oc core may be faster than the dual core if you don't multitask. I hope I am not wasting my $$.

Thoughts...

I am running a 165 in my Neo 2 right now. Works fine, though I am using the 1.c3 easyBIOS modified version. I am told that BIOS revisions above 1.9 should be able to use the chip though.

I have the chip running @ 2.6Ghz and it could probably do more but my 4 sticks of Pc2700 or the HTT of my board is holding me back.

Well i believe i was the first person on AT to purchase a dual core Opteron (165) and purchased it thinking that I could easy hit 2.8/3ghz as it was the renowned Opteron lol. To my dismay, to hit 2.8Ghz I needed ~1.64v which meant 65+ degrees on my xp90 setup, which is a no no, so I ran it at 2.6Ghz on 1.52v.

When I purchased it form a supplier that only had 2, I paid the same amount as what I would have done had i purchased a 4400+ X2 (that is 400Mhz stock difference  ). From using this chip I realised that a dual core at present time did not fit my needs. So I then sold the 165 just before the massive price reductions **phew**, and then purchased this current single core Opteron from Lopri which can run 3Ghz at 1.48v. The issue with this board is at 2.92Ghz it will run fine, at 2.93Ghz it will freeze in windows, I tried all the BIOS?s and rev 1.8 was the best, but still poor as I have to use a modded version to force a 1T CMD rate. Lol and not to mention anything over 200Mhz on the RAM is unstable hence the reason I am running these sticks under stock :disgust:. This is all because of poor BIOS support for this particular chip.

So I have already placed a pre-order for the DFI Expert ?Venus?, which Is the soon to be released special 25 year anniversary edition. I could wait for AM2, but as some people know I have my reservations and plan to upgrade once 65nm AM2?s arrive.
