I just put the machine together in my sig below, and am having some cooling issues... It's idling @ 43, and with a full load it's 56.

I'm using the SLK-948U with the very very loud Vantec Tornado 92mm fan.

The problem with the 948U is that it doesn't entirely cover the surface area of the processor. There is probably a millimeter or two of space on the top and bottom. I applied Arctic Silver 5, but it's still running hotter than I'd like.

Do you guys think it's a problem that the heatsink isn't covering the entire processor? Or is it OK to have that little amount of uncovered space?

Also, that Tornado is just waaaaay too loud (I think it comes in at 70dB. Can you recommend any fans that would run alot quieter?

Thanks!

What do you have for case fans???? Did you do any cable management inside the box? I hope you're talking about space as far as overlap between the top of the processor edge and the edge of the heatsink, not between the heatsink and processor. How much AS5 did you use? Have you checked for a bios update or looked on boards about that mobo?

As for a quieter fan, I don't think you'll find one that puts out that much air...

I've got 6 case fans. My cable management isn't all that great yet, but the system temp is 25C.

Yeah, the processor is just a millimeter or two larger than the heatsink on the top and bottom. I used a small clump of AS5 about the size of a BB... I followed the directions on the AS site to the letter.

I have the most recent bios, v1.2. When I was using the 1.1 bios, it stated my temp was 55C. The bios update got me down to 43C.

I don't want something that puts out that much air. I don't think I need something that powerful. I'd much prefer to go quieter as long as I don't overheat...
