I just finished a computer with for a friend the specs are.

A64 3400 (754)
1gig corsair select
audigy 2 zs platinum
6800 gt
Msi K8n Neo Platinum Mobo
500w ultra x ps

This is my Mobo

The system booted up, I installed the OS etc. When I checked the temperature it read at 52 celcious.

It runs 52celcious on idle and under load it can reach up to 75 celcious while running prime 95.

The heatsink does feels warm to the touch..but not extreme hot. It has the stock hsf and it runs prime 95 at 75 degrees celcious. I just had it running for about 30minutes and then I turned it off because my friend wanted to get some sleep.

I know that this motherboard has a bad bios temperature reading.

My question is that the bios version for my motherboard is 1.1 (7030). The instructions online say that the bios update for 1.1 fixes small ram issues - the bios update 1.4 will fix the temperature reading.

The thing is that the manual says that to do a bios update - the bios version must match. Is this true?

This is what I'm talking about the bios versions 1.1 - 1.4

their is a 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4.... I have version 1.1 - but would it be ok to install version 1.4?

From Msi Text:: "Download the BIOS that match your motherboard model and version number. BIOS's can be found at this link, which are separated by CPU socket type (socket 775, socket 478, socket 754, socket A, and archives)" ??????

I think you are reading that sentence incorrectly, or it is translated poorly, or i am reading your sentence incorrectly. :)

It would be impossible to update the bios if the bios version you were updating to had to match the one you already had. So yes, you can skip bios versions and update right to version 1.4.

Yeah use the update tool that comes with the motherboard and make sure you make a rescue disk. I built a system with this board for my mom and had the same problem (it was reading about 15 degrees high) until I flashed the bios.
