MSI K8N Neo 2 CPU Fan Header Question

Hey guys. I have a question about using my Vantec Tornado on an MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum. Does a 3 pin fan have to be connected to the motherbaord cpu fan header in order to boot? My Vantec Tornado is 4 pin and I'll be using of course a 4pin molex connecter. I also don't want to connect any of my case fans to the cpu fan header because I am using a fan controller. Can I just leave the CPU fan header without anything plugged into it?
