I am trying to resolve a problem with this system. I have a K8Neo Plat board that I have RMAd and received the replacement. I installed WinXP and the system will hang and freeze. I need to do a cold reboot to bring the system back. When I do cold boot, I do not get the Windows message about "having shut down improperly, do I want to enter safe mode etc." Other componenents include AMD64 3400+, ATI 9800 pro, 1 DVDRW, 3 hard drives (500 gb total), OCZ Plat RAM PC4000. The system is enclosed in an Antec Sonata case with an Antec PS of 380 watt. Since it is acting flaky with a new install, I am wondering if it is hardware related. What do I replace first, PS or Graphics card or could it be something else? Anyone have a similar problem/resolution?
Here is the latest in this continuing saga. I replaced the PS with a 550watt Antec, tried to install WinXP and the system froze during installation. Replaced the primary hard drive with another drive and the system froze during installation. Went into bios and loaded optimized defaults, removed all other drives except primary and DVD. Installed windows this time. Started install of Nvidia 5.11 system drivers and half way through system rebooted, bios display is on screen, initial windows XP screen displayed and then I get no display. Changed video cards to a PCI generic board, bios windows displayed, initial WinXP displayed, then nothing. I really am at a loss as to what is causing the problem. Do I send a 3rd board back to MSI for RMA? First board worked OK for about a year , first replacement board had my CPU running at 72c on startup, 70c idle. This board seemed fine at first but now I don't know. Any suggestions
