I have alittle problem and can you guys tell me if my m/b is broke I just installed geforce2 mx or other components. Lately, I have experience great unstability with my computer. Many times was that only my mouse can move around but cant click anything because everything else is froze. Some times happens when I open up start menu, open system work 2001 or open display property I mean they dont happen everytime but those have happend once, and now I cant even play rune demo because when I ready to enter the game it would loading and loading and then computer frozed. It happens pretty much very unxpected and could be on anything but the rune demo is unrunable for sure try 3 times. I didnt do overclocking to anyting I am
using WINDOWS98SE with DSL connection linksys 100 card and below is all the hardware. Thanks for the help. Also, some nvidia demo seem to be somewhat bugged in my computer because it would froze the computer in the middle of the demo or when I escape it, it would froze computer but the mouse still moves...

Yep Henry. I had the window up and runing for 2 and half month now just 2 days ago I got the geforce2 mx card. I follow the guru3d guide to kill all voodoo legacy driver already so I dont know whats up.

hmm, seems the video driver is what causing problems... what driver are you using now? reference? what version?

eVga is the Problem. Thier Custom Drivers SUCK and their PCB's are garbage. Much like the old Abit BX6 days ... You have to RMA most eVga cards before you get a "good" one. I ordered 4 a few weeks ago and had to RMA 3. The Elsa or the AOpen are much better quality PCB's and the AOpen is only a few $ more than the eVga.

I have also found that some cards (like the eVga & Visiontek) don't like the 631 drivers. Try the 618's.

BTW .. If the Mouse moves ..your Computer is NOT Locked up .. Thats a Display problem.

The K7T Pro is an awesome board. I doubt seriously that it is your problem.

Drop Detonator 3 Drivers (versions 6.xx and up) until Nvidia gets their act together regarding VIA KT133 AGP4X/Fast Writes stability. Going to 5.xx (5.30's for example) driver revision should fix instabilities you described.

Ah, that explains it, I have been wondering all day long and suspicious on my video. I am using the
nVidia v6.31 WHQL for Windows 98
Product: nVidia
OS: Windows 98
Version: 6.31 WHQL

Notes: These drivers are the official WHQL version of the 6.31 drivers. They are certified by Microsoft and they correct a large number of problems with the 6.18 drivers.

Should I try the latest leaked driver? 6.47? Or other one?
All detonator comparision

Thanks for any ideas.

You know, I'm having same type of problems you're having since buying a generic geforceMX. My situation is a bit worse though, I also installed an old a3d 1.0 card (again, cheapo generic) and it made my system unusable until I upgraded to winME. Now it runs but is not stable. Running the latest 6.3x drivers from nvidia. I'm going to try out a 5 series detonator driver and see if that helps. If not, I'm getting a new video card! (I already dumped the sound card and bought a sound blaster)

Anwyay, let me know what happens with your situtaion, I'll do the same.

I had a similar problem to you at first freezes lockups mine got worst anyway to cut a long story short,I had a faulty CPU,anyway I use Geforce2 MX & 5.22,6.18,6.31 Drivers with no problems ,try Bios tweaking Fastwrites disabled, all video shadowing disabled ,ram timing should be at at normal for best stability not fast or turbo , also what PSU are you using I hope a good 300w PSU,as I said my stability problems was a faulty CPU so look at all possible areas, btw what Via drivers are you using try the latest,My Geforce2 MX & MSI K7T PRO board is rock stable.

🙂
