I really need to buy an upgrade now, this turtlish Celeron rig is bugging me big time. I have decided to go for either Duron 600/650/700 or Thunderbird 750mhz, since they're the first batch of new AMD Athlon CPUs on sale here in Finland.
But there's a problem... Only one SocketA motherboard is commonly available, and it's MSI K7Tpro. K7Tpro's very reasonably priced, and I've had pretty good previous experiences with MSI mobos. Nevertheless, motherboard is such an important part of system stability and performance - it should be picked very carefully, and I'd like to go for a Asus A7V just to be on the safe side.

Since multiplier adjustement advantage of Asus A7V vs. other SocketA mobos is a no-issue now, is there any reason to avoid choosing MSI K7Tpro? I'd also like to hear your input on which CPU should I aim for, considering I'm going to perform a mild FSB overclock (105..110mhz)?

Here's a review of the mobo (a month old but still) http://www.slota.com/reviews/msi/k7tpro/. It seems to be rather good, but shouldn't you hold out for just a week or two until more mobos are reviewed? Is the multiplier thing really settled? Check this out: http://amdzone.pcstats.com/messageview.cfm?catid=19&threadid=18151

If you must get one now and if the multiplier thingie really is dead, then the msi mobo is probably a good choice. My experience with MSI is good. How is the pricing on Durons vs T-birds in Finland? Athlon 700 (t-birds and classic) are just as cheap as the Duron 700 here in Sweden. I'd go for the 650 instead (or a t-bird). Just my 2 öre..

You really ought to wait until more boards come out and then make a choice based on the comparative reviews at places like AnandTech. AnandTech may award the best board(s) the Editor's Choice Gold Award.
