i got a new MSI K7266 Pro 2 mobo today (the red one) Along with an athlon xp 1800+ to replace my old ECS K7S5A. well, i installed the new mobo and CPU and hooked up my vid card. but when i turn it on, i get no signal in the monitor, and no sign that my mobo works. The fans and everything work, but the cd drives dont repsond and the hard drive and floppy have no action whatsoever.

i took the athlon xp off and put my 1.4 tbird on it. still the same. i tried all the combinations of my 2 cpus and 2 mobos, with no avail. all the same problem. the radeon works, i tried it in my P4 system and it works fine. any ideas?
the power supply is new too, i jsut got it and it works in my other system as well, its 300w, plentiful.

im thinking RAM, i cant test the RAM since i only have 1 stick of PC2100. -_-.

what do you guys think? thanks.

If your RAM was bad enough to keep you from posting, you'd probably get a POST code. Speaking of that, doesn't that mobo have a D-Bracket? That should give you some useful info. Sounds like a short to ground. Check your mobo stand-offs and make sure they're where they belong.

yes, it does have a d-bracket. its stuck on 3 red lights, the code of which is "initializing video" but that doesnt make sense, since i am positive this video card works. it works in my p4 system, and heck, i even tried a geforce2 mx200 in it. still doesnt work. what do you mean by standoffs?

The metal posts you mount the mobo to. If you have a stray stand-off on the case, it may be contacting the back of the mobo and shorting to ground.

Sounds like the mobo is grounding out to me also....take the mobo out place it on a non-conductive surface with just the bare minimum of cards in it and fire it up again

Yes, you are sure you are not grounding it inadvertently, then it could definately be your RAM. When I put my new system together, it wouldn't post at all. I couldn't get any video signal and it turns out my RAM was bad. So I exchanged it for new RAM and it posted normally.

thanks you guys. im going to take it out and try it right now. also, i didnt mention before. when i put my athlon xp 1800+ in, it only stays on for like 5 secs, or less, and then automatically shuts down. what gives? this one is a NEW Cpu too

thanks you guys so much. i took the mobo out, put it on a box, and it worked. turns out my ECS K7S5A AND my Tbird were dead. only the new MSI board and athlon xp were alive. they worked.

so how do i make sure its not shorting to the ground when i put it back in the case? thanks
